Don Jones is a Master Craftsman!

He hand builds custom guitar amps!

Like this beauty recently built for a musician in Los Angeles.
It is a replica of the famous Marshall JTM-45 Plexi.

"..this thing is intense, you should hear the harmonics."
"...I just stood in front of it and soaked up the feedback."

I have spent a lifetime building things. Whether it is Harleys, race cars, metal fabrication, woodworking, guitars, or amplifiers I enjoy customizing, modifying, and building cool things. Several years ago I become less enthused about digging grease out from under my fingernails and also found myself increasingly in demand in North East Kansas repairing and modifying tube guitar amplifiers. It was then that I first began building my own amplifiers.

A position opened for an Electronics Tech at Steam Music & Pro Sound in Topeka and I closed my auto repair shop. Today, along with my day job, I have continued hand-building amplifiers. In NE Kansas we don’t really use the term “boutique amps” but that is in fact what I build. My amps are based on some basic types such as my BluesMaster, ClubMaster, or British JTM style amps.

I hand bend all amp chassis, I then design the circuit for whatever power rating and type of amplifier my customer wants, use top quality components such as transformers, tubes, and then hand wire the whole package. A local shop does computer generated custom faceplates for my amps and I cut, build and tolex the amplifier cabinetry. I can tolex them in anything a customer wants including the dark green with gold piping like I did for the guy that owns Steam Music.

As a result of hand assembly I can build anything from a 100-watt amp that sounds like Marshall amps used to sound 35 years ago, to a 22-watt fat tone sweetie that will growl like an angry dog when you lay into it. Would you like reverb with controls for dwell, tone, and mix? I can build combos, half stacks, full stacks, or just heads. You can specify any model speaker and I am happy to address any issue with you so you can achieve the sound and tone you want.

I typically have several hand made Jones amps available for immediate delivery of various types, power ratings, etc. A pre made Jones amp will save you money over a completely custom one off, and are priced competitively with the tube models of major manufacturers that are circuit board amps rather than point to point hand wired like they used to be. I also consider trade-ins.

At Jones Amps it’s all about the TONE and they are proudly made in the heart of America. Email me and let me help you move up to a Jones Amp.
